The pharmacy has a sign outside their store and it’s generated by AI. Walking past the sign is triggering because it feels like the pharmacy has resorted to being lazy and cheap. Using AI to create simple signs not only undermines human skill, but also comes with significant environmental costs. Furthermore, the university should be promoting innovation and encouraging originality, not AI slop. I am sure design and marketing students could have easily created better signage. This is not what higher education stands for.

I used to get all my meds and supplements from Uni Pharmacy for years, never really thinking to check prices elsewhere. I just assumed—wrongly—that their prices were student-friendly. As an international student, I often felt we were treated differently from local students, but because it was right on campus and convenient, I kept going back. That changed one day when the pharmacy was closed and I had to pop into a pharmacy off-campus. What I found was honestly pretty shocking—the exact same prescribed medication cost way less elsewhere. Sure, supplement prices can vary from place to place, but prescription meds usually don’t. That’s what makes this so disappointing. A pharmacy linked to a university—somewhere that should be looking out for students with fair, affordable prices—is actually one of the most overpriced in Christchurch, maybe even the most. Some of the prices are several times higher than what you’d pay at other pharmacies. I’m really disappointed in the University of Canterbury for letting this happen. Nothing wrong with making money—but I wouldn’t feel good walking around with a Rolex on my wrist if that money came from overcharging sick students just trying to get by. If your meds are covered by insurance, it might not affect you directly. But if you’re paying out of pocket, I’d definitely recommend shopping elsewhere.
Staff can be a tad bit condescending at times. Felt they were snobby towards international students like myself, but very different towards domestic students. They made a mistake on my prescription, and asked me to come back later. When I arrived back they still had missing medication and one of the pharmacists at the back started scoffing. I was very sick and it was unfair how I was treated in my state. Theres been over circumstances where they act uppity but this was deeply upseting.
Brilliant pharmacy, staff, and service. The team really go above and beyond to take care of customers, with excellent advice and support.
