I booked a mid-size SUV, but was given an old Mitsubishi (2008 model) that was in poor condition. At pickup, I requested an upgrade or a different vehicle, but was told no other options were available.
The car had headlight issues, which we didn’t notice at first because we collected it during the daytime and didn’t drive at night initially. On New Year’s Eve, while going out for a late dinner, we were stopped by the police due to the headlight problem. This clearly shows the vehicle was not properly checked before being rented out.
During the trip, my back pain became worse, and the car was uncomfortable to drive. There was also no reverse camera, which you would normally expect when booking a mid-size SUV.
I understand it was the Christmas holiday season and availability was limited, so I had no real choice. However, this car was not cheap — 5 days at $178.52 per day — which makes the experience even more disappointing.
That said, the service itself was good. The airport pickup and drop-off were on time and well-managed, which I appreciate.
Please inspect the vehicle carefully before accepting it. Based on this experience, I will not book with NZ Rental Car again.

Rented a car for there days. Excellent service, with pick up and drop off from airport.
Car was clean and well maintained, good communication during all the process.
Rental is also cheap as compared to big companies. Definetlely recommend then for good service and excellent price.

Sue in Nelson was fantastic! She was so kind and thorough in helping us get set up and out of Nelson, and even helped us out when we had a flat well outside of Nelson. Keryn in Christchurch was excellent reception as well. She was friendly and helpful and made our exit easy as pie. Tip top service and hospitality all around!

These are the facts:
I had a damage charge made against me due to scratches on the wheel arch @ $2.5k
I cleaned the car before returning it, and believe the scratches to the wheel arch weren't caused by me,
This was a Japanese import car - all the interior navigation was still in Japanese so the NAV / Radio was not able to be used. The side mirrors required manually pushing out as they were broken, The Boot only opened halfway as it was broken.
My Bank advised me - this company attempted to charge my card twice before there was enough money available for them to collect the 2.5k.
Prior to this, there was no correspondence about any damage, either via e-mail or my phone number. They claimed they tried - But I'm not that stupid.
I would like my 2.5k back;
