Juicy fillet of blue cod in one of the best batters I have ever tasted. Love the chips and highly recommend a potato fritter on the side (so crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside). Always friendly and reliable!

I ordered 1 scoop of chips, 1 piece of battered fish, and a 6 piece of Salt and Pepper squid. The portion was a perfect size for one, and everything was cooked perfectly. The fish not greasy and the batter did not taste like glue. I Will be back for sure!

As soon as you walk in you're greeted by the most smiley and wonderful staff. The food is quality and delicious, ordered from here multiple times and never had a bad order. You had a hard job trying to live up to the expectations of Cousteau's fish and chips but you've gone and exceeded that expectation.

The fish, chips and other fried seafood are very good. Was expecting a restaurant or at least an eatery given the "Gourmet" in the name. But I was disappointed that it is basically a takeaway fish and chips shop with only seats for 4 pax. Also I'm not sure if they are "the best" in CHC. Pretty good but I have tasted similar or better in other towns in South Island.

I've given it a few tries in the last months to give the place a fair go. But the fish is skimpy and quite overcooked. I tried the blue cod too but it was small, thin and overcooked. Nice people but not a good fish and chip shop at the moment.
