This hostel is in a great location, good free wifi and the staff are very friendly and helpful. We stayed in a double room which was clean and the bed was very comfy. Heated blanket was also a nice addition! Bathrooms also clean and tidy - good showers too. Highly recommended.

Lovely place which will make you feel welcome. Very convenient location as it's close to the airport bus, close to the magnificent botanical garden and 15min walk from the city center and the info center. Beds are comfy, though it gets a little cold at night. Shower and toilet are clean. Kitchen is nice but could use a little more fridge space.

A really cool place to stay! Ended up spending our last 2 weeks of our NZ trip here, much due to friendly staff but also super nice rooms with comfy beds. Free unlimited WiFi. Nice kitchen with all necessary utensils. Superb location!

The Dorset House was by far the best hostel of the three I've been to in Christchurch. Our twin room was very large and equipped with everything we could wish for: Heating blankets, heater, two pillows each, bedside table+lamp, towels and even a flat screen TV. There were conveniently located bathrooms which were clean and modern and had a nice shower (although it was a bit difficult adjusting it to right temperature). The hostel has a spacious and well equipped kitchen with plenty of fridge space, acceptable storage space for other groceries and enough stovetops and an oven. We also enjoyed the lounge with a billiard table, TV, plenty of seating and the really friendly and accommodating staff! All in all a great hostel for short and long-term stays with amazing rooms which are offered at a really competitive price, especially when you book at weekly rates. Highly recommended, I will definitely stay again if I return (:

I stayed at Dorset House at the beginning of July 2012. The facilities were very good with a fully equipped kitchen and common room. However we had issues with the shower facilites with fluctuating hot and cold water and we felt that the heating in our room was inadequate for the weather (we had to go and buy extra blankets and smuggle in a fan heater). Also, the room we stayed in did not look like it had been vacuumed for a long time. At reception the lady who checked us in was not very friendly, but we did encounter another staff member who was more welcoming. All-in-all the facilities were as they were describes, but for $85 per night, twin share, I would probably stay somewhere else if I visit Christchurch again.
