We visited this wonderfull shop because of its recommended repair possibilities. After 6 months cycling in Europe and India this was very necessary! The adventure in NZ would ask more off the road and gravel so we needed expert help. We are now one month on our way and all still works perfect. The golden maintenance you did by checking and repairing/replacing all possible problems (which were many) now proof to be of great value to us. We asked way to much and you answered in pure quality and service. (Also ordered parts and lent us bicycle when ours was being worked on.) Walked in and hired a gravel bike on the spot. Staff was helpful and friendly. Enjoyed 3 rides in 2 days, summit road above Christchurch and two rides along the Avon River to the coast. Gravel bike was the perfect choice. Would have preferred an easier gear than 1:1, but I made it up the climb anyway!
We rented 2 e-bikes for 60 days (ride around the South Island). Started with battery-problems in the first days which were solved very quick. Because of the age of the e-bike (4 years ?) the capacity of the batteries was poor. If they would have given half of the mentioned capacity of 200 km it would be fine. But they lasted for only 80 km. Brakeshoes we must replace within 2 weeks because they were too far gone. But we had a beautiful tour and met many very nice and helpful people.
I had a great experience hiring a MTB from Chill Explore. The online booking system was great, and very easy to use. When I turned up to pick up the bike, the staff were very friendly and helpful. Plus they are actually cyclists, so they know what they are talking about. I was in Christchurch for a work trip and wanted a bike to do some early morning rides before work. My bike was a Norco Storm 120, and it came with clip pedals, pump, spares and bottle cage. I brought my own quadlock mount, which the staff happily installed for me. The bike was in very good condition (it might have been brand new). I can highly recommend Chill Explore if you need a hire bike. I’ll definitely be hiring from them again.
Adam and Stu were great in advising bike types and places to visit while in Christchurch. We hired 2 city style bikes for a week which allowed for greater exploration than walking while staying out of a car. They provided a helmet and lock for each bike. The location is easy to find and centrally located. If you are here for a conference or holiday, a bike hire from chill explore is a must.
