Seamless collection and even better drop off, the car was an electric Tesla and it was awesome. Great way to see what an electric car was like, amazingly cheap to charge and didnt experience any battery anxiety.. Well placed superchargers for where we travelled to and planning was easy using the navigator which highlighted charging options along the route.
Having booked from Avis for the first time, 100% a five-star review. From collection, the counter agent was very professional, friendly, and thorough. He explained everything in terms of the rate, showed me how he was just verifying my card, then took the bond, and I was very impressed with how fast the process was. The car itself was amazing, being a new model 2025 Ranger, perfect for the long drives we did to Lake Tekapo, and Hamner Springs. One downside, the car was dirty on the outside so bit of a bummer, but it didn't take away from the rental. 100% will be using Avis as my new rental company when travelling in CHC.
If you're reading this review, just do yourself a favor and don't book any car with budget rentals. I didn't pay attention to other reviews and paid the price. Their customer service is an absolute joke. I have been following up for almost a month about the additional charge but not a single response! After reading prior reviews, I assume this charge is because I refilled only up to the level when I collected so I furnished further proof, still no response. Stay away for your peace of mind
Do not Rent a car from Avis. The car was great but the customer service is unhelpful and the billing is predatory. The people at the counter don't provide clear details about the extras and lie about how they bill and price it. Once you sign you're stuffed. Ensure you always get a paper receipt and never sign anything until you know exactly what you will be billed in writing. They got me to sign under False pretences by lying about the price to my face. Customer service after the fact is impossible to deal with and the branch's response to my ticket is a joke. This branch is gross. Never go here.
Everything went smooth, and drop off was crazy easy. Only feedback I have was about the vehicle - they trunk space had that hanging protector thing that basically just got in the way of all our luggage and we didnt know what to do with it the whole trip. Would've loved to just leave that thing behind. What is that even for anyway!?! Nonetheless, great car rental experience!
