We had an excellent experience at 99 Bikes Hornby, thanks especially to Peter. My son was looking at a Segway e-scooter, and on our first visit Peter took the time to let him ride the ZT3 and then honestly suggested a more age-appropriate scooter for a young teenager, which we really appreciated.
After Christmas we phoned 99 Bikes in the morning and Peter was happy to hold the scooter for us for a couple of hours until we could get back in. When we arrived in store to purchase it, Peter had remembered us, he greeted us with a handshake, and made the whole process easy and welcoming. After the purchase, he also encouraged us to come back for accessories, mentioning their great range.
Fantastic customer service, genuine advice, and a great experience all round. Thank you, Peter and the team at 99 Bikes Hornby!

Richard is such an amazing manager for this store. I am not sure how long he's been at this store but I hope he doesn't go anywhere! I bought a bike in store with the help of Henry where he also explained everything I need to get started for my cycling journey. A week later I saw a better deal for a different bike that has the group set I really wanted. Richard worked his magic and he managed to source this bike (which they don't offer btw) and got me the bike I wanted!!! I am absolutely astonished because I was about to accept I just have to be ok with the bike I got at first.
I am fortunate to have this customer service from them. These guys get the job done and make their customers happy. This branch is going to be my forever bike store :)

99 Bikes in Hornby were amazing, very professional, knowledgeable and great communication whilst I waited for my bike to arrive in store, which didn’t take long at all.
Mate was especially helpful with all of my questions and enabled me to feel confident I had made the right choice of bike for my needs. I’m super happy with my purchase and would highly recommend them.

In January 2025 I bought a Merida Silex 200 from the Hornby store. The Large frame size in stock was clearly too big for me, and I was advised that a Medium would suit (despite no formal sizing or measurements being taken). I was asked to pay a deposit to get the M transferred to the store, and was hesitant to do so without seeing or riding the Medium. When I queried this, I was told it wasn't likely to be an issue, and after further pushing was eventually told “we’ll sort something out”. Despite the opportunity, I was not informed about the Perfect Ride Guarantee.
When the bike arrived, I was only given a basic setup before taking it home. Over the following months I rode regularly, but at the same time I also engaged with the store regularly about a persistent front brake issue that was never resolved. In May I woke up with severe neck pain one day which forced me off work for a week, and off the bike for four months. When I started to ride again I experienced more discomfort, including neck, hand and lower back pain, despite trying adjustments and later paying for a professional bike fit.
After researching further and visiting a competitor in addition to the Moorhouse store for sizing advice, I was told the Silex range runs large and that I would likely be better suited to a Small or XS frame. At Moorhouse the staff member confirmed this against the Merida sizing chart after taking my measurements.
I raised the matter with Head Office earlier this year, but by that stage they argued too much time had passed for a refund or replacement. Alternative components were offered, but I declined as I believe that because the frame is too large for me it is unlikely these will make a meaningful difference. No allowance was made for the fact that the injury took some time to develop, or that as a new rider I was reliant on the salesperson and had no knowledge of how incorrect sizing could cause an injury like this.
My main takeaway for anyone buying their first gravel or drop-bar bike from 99 Bikes is to do your own sizing research, insist on measurements being taken, and test ride multiple frame sizes if possible. In my experience, the original sizing advice I received was incorrect for my body type, and it has significantly affected my comfort and enjoyment of the bike.
I do want to acknowledge Henry and Steve at Hornby, who were both helpful and understanding through this process.
